Coriander Powder

  • Warm, nutty and gently citrusy, our coriander seed powder carries a soft lemon-orange note that comes from the dried fruit of Coriandrum sativum. This mild, versatile spice mellows sharp flavors and ties a blend together, which is why it is often used in the largest amount of any single seasoning in a curry base.
  • A kitchen workhorse for curries, dals, soups, stews and slow-cooked sauces. Toast or fry it in oil with cumin and turmeric to deepen the flavor before adding onions and tomato, since the spice tastes raw until cooked in fat and turns nutty and rich once the base darkens.
  • Blend your own garam masala, tandoori mix, harissa or berbere, then rub it into roasted vegetables, grilled chicken, lamb and fish. It also seasons pickles, chutneys, lentils, sausages and even craft beer, working across Indian, Mexican, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes.
  • Finely milled from whole seeds into a smooth, free-flowing powder that dissolves evenly into wet and dry dishes. Because pre-ground spice loses its volatile citrus oils over time, store it in a sealed jar away from heat and light, and choose a size you will finish while it is fresh.
  • Keep it on hand as a pantry staple and a stand-in when a recipe calls for fresh cilantro in a cooked dish, using about half a teaspoon for each tablespoon of chopped leaves. This is a plain single spice with no salt, additives or fillers, so you control the flavor.
